It is known as the next largest city after Glasgow and is considered the seventh largest city in all of the United Kingdom. Edinburgh is one of the 32 neighboring government committee areas of Scotland. The etymological meaning of Edinburgh comes from the Brythonic Din Eidyn, the Fort of Eidyn, since it was a Gododdin hill fort.

In 1995, the new town and old town districts of Edinburgh were named as the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Edinburgh is all-famous for the yearly celebrations in the form of the Edinburgh Festival, which collects all the independent and official festivals. These take place annually, in the early few weeks of August. The greatest fact about this is that the number of settled population of Edinburgh is roughly at loggerheads with the number of people who visit this attractive festival. The Edinburgh Fringe, the Edinburgh International Festival, the International Film Festival, the Military Tattoo, and the coveted Book Festival.
